Today was a great day, if you haven’t attended a local TweetUp in your area you really are losing out. We met at The Bat Cave  (known as Beans & Leaves on Ventura in Abbotsford) where they serve great coffee and pastries. The opportunity to meet people face-to-face that you chat with online makes the experience even that more special. If you are unemployed or self-employed you really need to get to these TweetUps for the networking alone, you just never know who you will meet and what may come from that meeting. Heck your next job might be hidden at a TweetUp.

I had the privilege of hanging with Chris Penner & Ronda Payne, it’s always a blast when they show up…never a dull moment. But today I met  new people, Rick & Kathleen Rake, very cool people and they have so much to offer so you should follow them on Twitter and get to know them.

Here are the Twitter handles:

1.) Chris Penner – @chrispenner

2.) Ronda Payne – @rondapayne

3.) Rick Rake – @rickrake

4.) Kathleen Rake – @kathleenrake

Tell them Owen sent you.

Chris Penner is a local Real Estate Agent with Keller Williams here in my community.

Ronda Payne is a writer here, you can hire her anytime she is awesome.

Rick Rake is the former Editor of the Abbotsford News and is now retired.

Kathleen Rake is the principle of Click Media Works and her passion is Wine – look out Gary Vaynerchuk! Her Wine website is called Between The Vines

Sounds like you are keeping it going strong in BC. You are right that Tweetups are incredible on so many levels. I’ve taken to using the term “Under-Employed” to describe the malaise and lackadaisical ways in which companies are talking, but not hiring here in Seattle. The good news is that I’m seeing this flip around. Companies are talking AND taking action now. I expect Q4 to finish strong and Q1 2010 to be even better.

I hope to make it up to BC soon so we can meet in person. We’ve been tweeting for almost 1 year with each other now. Time Flies! Keep up the great work and words.

Right On Jeff, if you ever know ahead of time that you may be coming up this way, let me know and I’ll get a TweetUp scheduled. Thanks for commenting.

I could not agree with you more… I have been a number of twit-ups here in Beijing and they not proved enjoyable to be able put a face to a twitter handle but as also resulted in making some interesting commercial opportunities. For me, the best twit-ups are ones that have related professionals meet (we have a digital marketing and ePR focused one). Our challenge in China is having twitter work but so far we are still flying the twitter flag and hope one day we can access the service without VPN’s and proxies.

I am interested in reaching others in digital marketing and ePR so drop me a twit 🙂

Hey Matt, Tweetups also help keep you connected and around the right people if you find yourself under utilized in terms of work, your next gig or job could be there. Plus they’re fun too. Thanks for leaving a comment.

I totally agree with you regarding going to TweetUps for networking purposes. While I’ve always been somewhat “scared” of going to “true” networking events. I find that going to TweetUps has less pressure and because it’s more social it’s so much more fun!

    Great post!

Hey Michelle, I love Social events, I love meeting people and most of all I love helping people when I’m at Social events. I was in Radio for almost 15 years so I’m not shy, in fact I’m obnoxious at the best of times cause you know I’m in the room. The opportunity to meet like-minded people is important too me, I want be growing all the time and more importantly I want help those with a genuine challenge that needs to be solved. Thanks for your comments and enjoy the TweetUps, they can be your next job, you could meet a new best friend and or you will be blessed by someone who is doing the same back to you.
