ABBOTSFORD, B.C. – Hundreds of people will call the 26-storey Mahogany at Mill Lake high-rise their home when it is completed in approximately three years. What better way for them and others to mark the launch of Abbotsford’s tallest building than with a celebration from noon until 5 p.m. on Saturday, March 26.

Abbotsford Mayor George Peary will kick-off the high-rise party with a few words at noon, followed by the musical duo EachOther.

Food, beverages, tours of  The Viewpoint (Mahogany’s stylish presentation centre at 2180 Gladwin Rd.), and an opportunity for all visitors to win an Apple iPad, are offered until 5 p.m.

Those party-goers who sign a purchase agreement contract for a Mahogany condo or two-storey townhome get to choose from either a mirage hardwood floor upgrade or full-size, high-end Maytag washer/dryer set as a special bonus that day.

Diane Delves, president and CEO of Quantum Properties, the developer of Mahogany, said the most exciting part about the building, aside from its traditional luxury and spectacular views, is its quiet location in the heart of a growing city.

Because Mahogany is right across from Mill Lake Park and near major employers, its residents will enjoy an easy walk or bike ride to work or major shopping.

Quantum Properties recently demonstrated its civic pride by making a significant donation on behalf of Mahogany to Abbotsford’s Canuck Place Dave Lede House children’s hospice, putting the Mahogany stamp on the ‘Great Room’ there.

Mahogany at Mill Lake, located in Abbotsford, is a two-phase condominium project that includes a 26-storey high-rise building, expected to be completed in approximately three years, and a four-storey low-rise building. Its public launch runs from noon until 5 p.m. on Saturday, March 26 at The Viewpoint presentation centre, located at 2180 Gladwin Rd. just north of Marshall Road.

Every once and a while, something very special happens in my community, I don’t normally write about local events, but I just had to share this one with you. History was in the making this morning in Abbotsford, B.C., Canada, I had the opportunity to arrive early and take some snaps of the site where the Canuck Place Children’s Hospice will take residence. It’s on the west side of the Campus of Care where the recently opened Abbotsford Regional Hospital is located, another milestone achievement I might add.

The Canuck Place Children’s Hospice was named Dave Lede House by Canuck Place officials during this mornings media event, which was held at the foot of the construction site, it was a perfect day, the Sun was shining bright, the skies were almost cloudless, and the turnout was simply amazing. It was an honor for me to be there.

To date, 9.8 Million has been raised towards the second phase target of 13 million. It should also be noted that The Dave Lede Foundation donated 2.5 million this morning, Dave also heads The Ledcor Group of Companies which is building Canuck Place in Abbotsford.

New Abbotsford Canuck Place Children’s Hospice to be named – Dave Lede House

ABBOTSFORD, BC – March 7, 2011 – Dave Lede announced today that he will be donating $2.5 million towards the Capital Campaign to build a new Canuck Place Children’s Hospice in Abbotsford. In recognition of the generous donation, made through the Dave Lede Family Charitable Foundation, the new Abbotsford Canuck Place Children’s Hospice will be named – Dave Lede House.

“The Dave Lede Family Charitable Foundation have a long history of supporting paediatric initiatives across North America,” said Dave Lede. “Our corporate culture at the Ledcor Group of Companies reflects that of my family foundation and it involves supporting the communities in which we operate, and through our gift to Canuck Place Children’s Hospice, we are able to reach children and families across BC.”

“We are so grateful for the generosity and support of Mr. Lede,” said Filomena Nalewajek, Chief Executive Officer of Canuck Place Children’s Hospice. “His ongoing support of our program and his leadership on this project are invaluable to out efforts of reaching all children and families that need our care.”

The Canuck Place expansion will help meet the growing need for pediatric palliative services in the province, and particularly in the Fraser Health region where 46% of families currently served by Canuck Place reside. The new hospice will more than double the physical capacity of Canuck Place from the existing nine beds and four family suites to include a 10-bed, 2,800-square-metre (30,000-square-foot) facility, with suites for five families. By locating the hospice in Abbotsford, the program will be available closer to home for many families in the Fraser Valley and the Interior of B.C., lessening their need for travel.

Canuck Place offers a comprehensive continuum of care to over 400 children with life-threatening illnesses and their families throughout British Columbia. The program is unique offering world-class health care within a home-like environment. With comfortable surroundings, personalized programs, caring professional staff and dedicated volunteers, it is a place for children and families to come in their time of need.

I took in the Annual Tourism Abbotsford Christmas Breakfast Wednesday Dec 8th at the TRADEX, it’s located at the Abbotsford International Airport. I have to admit I was extremely surprised at how this event was presented, I walked in expecting the typical bare bones type of breakfast, but my hat goes off to the organizers for what I thought was a posh event. It was top drawer. I had the privilege of sitting with some very special people in our community, I am providing a few pics for you, they were taken by Rick Rake (known as THE UNGURU) and now the new media called TNN (Twitter News Network), he is everywhere.
